I am writing this on behalf of my friend Fred Cooper. Fred worked in the landscaping industry for over 20 years. Due to a car accident which resulted in a severe injury to his back he can no longer do the physical aspects of this occupation. He is very eager to work but his prospects are limited because of the back injury  I am trying to help him find work in a non physical capacity in the landscaping industry because he has extensive knowledge.

Fred tries very hard and is willing to do any job he can do. He has basic computer skills and is very friendly and outgoing. Does anyone in this forum have any suggestions for Fred?

thank you for your help

Sincerely

Doanique Gennaria (ETS with the ARC of Chester County)

Has he applied to the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation? Retraining may be appropriate. Perhaps opening his own landscapping business may be of interest to him?

Sorry to hear about your friend, I hope this will help. First, right now the economy sucks, and there is not a whole lot of work out there. However your frind does have some options. There are still positions available for landscape designers. If Fred has a good basic knowledge of computers, he can learn to use the programs needed to Design and draft landscape. I'm refering to Auto CAD products and simalar design programs. With his experience, he would be able to work with a landscaping company, or even architects. He'll be like me, I can draw it, I just can't biuld it anymore. If his injuries are permanent, he can go on SSD, while he learns to use his experience in the office, instead of out in the field. He can also go for the certifacation instead of a degree, to make the return to work faster.
