Hi anoymous, great question!  For best results, it is recommended that your profile be focused on a position within a single industry and therefore, an industry selection should be made.  This will increase your opportunity for RightMatch, as well as your chances of employers finding you in search.  Furthermore, employers want to receive profiles that are focused towards obtaining a single position within their industry.  They are turned away by a profile that is too general.

Now, that's not to say that you can't market yourself towards doing multiple fields of work.  That is why GettingHired.com has been designed so that you can have multiple profiles, one for each of the careers that interest you.  Even though your profiles will be similar, the key difference is that the objective, skills and other supporting information in your profile are focused towards a particular postion, thus increasing your chances for gaining employers interest and landing the job.  You might even find that you have multiple profiles within a single industry.  The more pointed your profile is towards a particular job, the better chance that the employer finds you to be a good fit.

In conclusion, you should have a focused profile for each position that you are interested in and the appropriate industry selected for each profile.

Good luck!

Are there any plans to add more potential fields to the list? I'm interested in anything related to civil rights type activism -- preferably disability rights, but that may be too narrow to enter in. I can't find anything that even looks related to me. Do you have any advice on what I'd check for that?

AlexaM, the industry type that you'll want to use is "Community and Social Services".  A great test to make sure that you're selecting the correct industry for your profile is to use our Find Jobs search and select the "Additional Search" link so that you can specify simply an industry with no other search information and click the "Find Jobs" button.  Try "Community and Social Services" for example and you'll find a list of job positions in your field, confirming that the industry selection in your profile matches up properly.  This is also a great test to run for increasing the accuracy RightMatches as well.
