Hello, I am new to the cite and am very interested in finding out how it can assist me in procuring a job utilizing my autocad education. Or any kind of job. I am very frustrated because I have not worked in 10yrs and really am tired of not working and feeling uesless. I spent many years working in health care facilities and now am not able to work anywhere requiring me to walk around alot or very far, lifting is definately out of the question. I get to sit. That is why I am trying to update my knowledge in Autocad. But I fear finding a job will be near impossible. I would love to telecommute but am very willing to try any drafting position available. Not only will it be hard due to my disability but also because I am a woman in a predominately male field. Any suggestions?????
Lucy
Hello Lucyjane, what patience you have to work with AutoCad! When you're ready to start applying to jobs, you can use our Find Jobs search located along the top main menu. Try entering keywords such as "autocad" and the location you'd like to work. Without a location specified, I've entered simply keyword "autocad" and clicked the "Find Jobs" button and found the following AutoCad jobs offered currently by ITT Corporation, http://gettinghired.com/SearchResults.aspx?q=autocad
Forgive me, but what is audocad?
Have you checked Craigslist? I always see AutoCad jobs under engineering and architecture. Good Luck!!!
Hello Lucy Jane
It's great that you've learned Auto CAD, I know from experience that it's not easy. And as recently as last summer there were plenty of jobs for drafting that didn't require a degree. Thee are still some out there, but they atleast ask for certifacation, or years of experience, in a related field. I'm refering to either electrical, or mechanical experience, and some are now requireing some project managment experience.
I am aslo disabiled, and have been drafting for 5 years, but right now I can't buy a job. But I'm self tought, no degree, just 25 years as a cabinet maker. I occassionally get a contract job for display-build companies, just due to the fact, that I have built things for years. However a lot of companies that need drafting are useing Auto CAD Civil 3D, Microstation, Inventor, and Solidworks, it's hard to find a company that uses only Auto CAD anymore. But since you have experience in health care, there are companies that build equipment for medical use. If you understand how that is designed and know anything about electrical schematics, that might be your in.
I wish you luck
