If anyone has any information about a medical billing and coding position or knows someone who does, I'd love any pointers I can get. I have an associates degree in medical billing and coding and have a physical disability and have been looking for work for a year now but haven't found anyone who will hire me due to the fact that I don't have any experience. I don't know how to get experience if noone will give me a chance.
How about volunteering for the office or administrative staff at a not-for-profit organization in your community? Or do you know a local doctor or dentist or other service provider who might welcome some help with billing matters? Sometimes the best way to gain quotable experience is from a volunteer situation. I realize that there could be privacy considerations at play, as well, but even talking about your career goals with a medical professional, or a dentist, or a vet might lead to opportunities where you can demonstrate your capabilities and your enthusiasm as a volunteer. Good luck.
Sincerely, BusyBee
I am in the exact same situation. I've only been graduated since October of last year, but I've been looking ever since and have found NOTHING! Most places want 3-5 years experience...all I have is my externship experience which is 2 months worth. I don't know what else to do except keep trying I guess. Good Luck to you! If you hear anything let me know OK? If I hear anything I'll let you know OK?
