My name is Kimm, and I am a totally blind female. I have an undergrad degree in psychology and a masters in rehab counseling along with my CRC certification and am LPC eligible. After finishing my mastersI interviewed for jobs about 10 months before getting my first job at the local technical college. Although I have been very determined and very persistent in my position, I have not been consistently accommodated to be successful. After being in this position for 3 years, I was told yesterday i am placed on administrative leave and will be without a job as of July 1. This is not a problem I have volunteered for, unemployed in the middle of a major recession. I guess I thought as long as I was consistent I could weather this. Any advice for someone in my situation?
Have you ever considered working for the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, or the Bureau of Blindess and Visual Services? Both offices assist people with disabilities with finding work, but the Bureau of Blindness and Visual Services, as the name implies, specializes in working with individuals who are blind.
I also have a Master's degree in rehabilitation counseling.
Perhaps you could work for the social security administration in your state? Currently they have a major hiring initiative.
